Your library is yours. Here's exactly what that means.

A vault only works if you trust it. This page says, in plain language, what MyContext stores, what Dex does with it, who can see it, and how to take it all away again.

How to export everything

The short version

Only you can see your library. It is never public and never visible to other users or search engines unless you share a specific list.
Dex reads what you save to summarise, tag and index it — and for nothing else. We don't sell data, show ads or train models on your library.
You can export everything as a single file whenever you like, and delete anything — or your whole account — permanently.
The browser extension only sees the page you're on when you use it. It never collects browsing history.
We keep the minimum needed to run the service: your account email, what you save, what Dex derives from it, and basic operational logs.

What we store

Your account: The email address you sign in with, the sign-in method you chose, and a display name if you set one. That's the whole profile.
Your library: The links, notes, uploaded files, highlights, lists, tags and feed subscriptions you add, plus your conversations with Dex. This is your data; we hold it so the app works.
What Dex derives: For each entry: a cleaned, readable copy of the page text, a short summary, suggested tags, a numeric index used for search-by-meaning, and reading progress. Derived data is deleted with the entry it belongs to.
Operational data: Timestamps, error logs and the API-key names you create — what's needed to keep the service running and to show you what happened. We don't run advertising trackers.

How Dex processes your content

Dex uses commercial AI models through our own gateway. When you save something, the page text (or your note, or the text of a file) is sent to the model to produce the summary, tags and search index. When you ask a question, the relevant entries are sent along with it so the answer can quote them. When you ask for an explanation, the passage and the text around it are sent.

That is the only reason your content leaves our systems. We don't use it to train anything, and Dex never browses the open web on your behalf — answers come from your library, with citations, or not at all.

You can turn automatic summaries and tags off in Settings → AI. Search-by-meaning stays on because the app depends on it.

Who can see your library

You: Everything, always, from any signed-in device.
People you share with: Only if you switch on a public link for a specific list. A shared list shows its name, description and the titles, summaries, tags and pictures of the entries in it — never your notes, never anything outside that list. Switch it off and the link stops working immediately.
Agents and scripts with your key: Exactly what you see, nothing more. Revoke a key and their access ends at once.
Everyone else: Nobody. Libraries are not indexed by search engines, and we don't look inside yours unless you ask us to help with a problem.

Services we rely on

MyContext runs on an established cloud provider for hosting, database, file storage and sign-in emails, and on commercial AI model providers for Dex's reading. They process data only to provide those services to us.

When the Plus plan launches, payments will be handled by a dedicated payment provider; we will never see or store your full card details.

Take everything with you

Settings → Import & export → Export downloads your whole library as one JSON file: every entry with its readable text, Dex's summary, tags, lists, highlights and original save dates — plus your feeds, your conversations with Dex and your settings. Uploaded files come as download links that work for seven days, and the Highlights page can also export your highlights as Markdown.

The export re-imports cleanly into MyContext, and the format is plain enough to move elsewhere. There is no waiting period and no limit on how often you export. Two things are left out on purpose: your API keys (they are secrets) and the search index (it is rebuilt automatically when you import).

Delete anything, or everything

An entry: Deleting an entry removes it — and its text copy, summary, tags, highlights and index — from your library and from search immediately. There is no recycle bin, so export first if you're unsure.
A key or a share: Revoke an API key in Settings → API keys; stop sharing a list from the list itself. Both take effect at once.
Your account: Settings → General → Delete my account removes your entries, files, highlights, lists, tags, feeds, conversations, keys and settings, then the account itself. It is permanent and finishes within minutes.

The browser extension

The MyContext extension for Chrome and Firefox has no permission to read pages in the background. It sees a page only when you click its button, use its shortcut or its right-click menu — and then only that page.

When you save, it sends the page's address and title (and your note and tags) to your vault. When you highlight or ask for an explanation, it also sends the text you selected and the paragraph around it. It never collects browsing history, and it signs in with a key you can revoke from Settings → API keys at any time.

Cookies and local storage

We use only what's needed to keep you signed in and to remember your preferences (such as light or dark mode). There are no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, so there is nothing to consent to and no banner to dismiss.

Changes to this page

If how we handle your data changes in a way that matters, we'll update the date at the top of this page and say so inside the app before it takes effect.

Private by default. Portable by design.

Those aren't slogans; they're the two settings that never change. Everything Dex does happens inside a vault that you can empty in one click.
