Years of bookmarks shouldn't be the reason you stay somewhere. Drop in a file from your browser, Karakeep, Pocket or a feed reader; Dex sorts out duplicates, keeps your folders as tags and starts reading.

MyContext detects the format itself. You just need the export.

Chrome, Brave, Arc and other Chromium browsers

  1. 1Open the Bookmark manager (⌘/Ctrl + Shift + O).
  2. 2Click the ⋮ menu in the top-right corner.
  3. 3Choose “Export bookmarks” and save the HTML file.

Keeps: Titles, links, folders (as tags) and the date you saved each one.

Microsoft Edge

  1. 1Open Favourites (⌘/Ctrl + Shift + O).
  2. 2Click the ⋯ menu, then “Export favourites”.
  3. 3Save the HTML file.

Firefox

  1. 1Open Manage bookmarks (⌘/Ctrl + Shift + O).
  2. 2Click “Import and Backup” in the toolbar.
  3. 3Choose “Export Bookmarks to HTML…”.

Keeps: Titles, links, folders (as tags), Firefox tags and dates.

Safari

  1. 1On a Mac, open Safari and choose File → Export → Bookmarks…
  2. 2Save the HTML file anywhere you can find it again.
  3. 3On iPhone or iPad, export from a Mac signed in to the same iCloud account.

Keeps: Titles, links and folders (as tags).

Karakeep

  1. 1In Karakeep, open Settings → Import / Export.
  2. 2Click “Export bookmarks” to download the JSON file.
  3. 3Drop it into MyContext's importer.

Keeps: Links, notes, tags, and the original save dates. Text notes become MyContext notes.

Pocket

  1. 1Pocket closed in 2025; if you downloaded your export before then, look for the CSV file(s).
  2. 2Drop each CSV into the importer — several at once is fine.
  3. 3Your Pocket tags become MyContext tags.

Keeps: Titles, links, tags and the time you added each one.

Any feed reader (OPML)

  1. 1Export your subscriptions as OPML from Feedly, Inoreader, NetNewsWire, Miniflux and friends.
  2. 2In MyContext, open Feeds and choose “Import OPML”.
  3. 3Each feed is followed; folders become tags on everything that feed brings in.

Keeps: Every feed, its folder as a tag, and the latest posts to get you started.

A plain list of links

links.txt

  1. 1Put one link per line in a text file — from a spreadsheet, a notes app, anywhere.
  2. 2Drop the file into the importer.
  3. 3Dex fetches each page to find the title and read it properly.

Keeps: The links. Everything else, Dex fills in.

What happens next

Drop the file. The rest is Dex's problem.

Duplicates are recognised

The same page saved over http and https, with or without www, or with tracking junk on the end is one entry. Anything you already have is skipped and counted, not doubled.

Folders become tags

A bookmark in Reading › Design › Typography arrives tagged reading, design and typography, so the structure you built survives — and now it's searchable.

Dex reads everything

Each imported link is fetched, cleaned into a reader view, summarised, tagged and indexed by meaning — in the background, a few at a time, while you carry on.

You see exactly what happened

Before anything is saved you get a preview: how many items were found, which format was detected, and which list they'll land in. Afterwards, a plain count of created, skipped and failed.

Do imported bookmarks count as entries?

Yes — every imported item is an entry, the same as one you save by hand. There's no cap during the beta. When Plus launches, the Free plan includes 1,000 entries, so a larger import would need Plus or a bit of pruning first.

Will importing thousands of links take long?

Saving them takes seconds. Dex then reads them in the background a few at a time, so summaries and tags fill in over the following minutes or hours depending on how many there are. You can search and browse straight away.

What if a page no longer exists?

The entry is still created with the title from your export, so nothing you saved is lost. Dex marks it as unreadable rather than inventing a summary, and you can retry any time.

Can I import into a specific list?

Yes. The importer lets you pick a destination list before it runs, so a browser export can land in “Old bookmarks” instead of your main library.

Can I run the same import twice?

Safely, yes. Anything already in your vault is recognised by its address and skipped, so re-running an export only adds what's new.

What about getting my data back out?

Settings → Import & export gives you the whole library as one JSON file — links, notes, tags, lists and summaries — whenever you want it. Import is not a one-way door.
